In 2024, the Massachusetts Center for the Book is piloting Mass Kids Lit Fest in the Pioneer Valley. This geographically dispersed festival is timed to Children’s Book Week, which runs from May 6–12, 2024, and is produced in partnership with schools, community groups, and libraries across Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin counties.

We recognize that kids' access to literary programming is inequitably distributed across MA—especially for those living in rural areas and Gateway Cities—and we also know how transformational author events can be. Research has proven that author events and school visits not only lead to improvement in the reading “enjoyment, attitudes, and confidence” of young people, they also serve to increase “reading frequency, fluency, and comprehension.”
