The Massachusetts Center for the Book launched Mass Kids Lit Fest in Western Massachusetts in May 2024. We are pleased to announce that the Festival will be returning for its third year in 2026! This geographically dispersed festival overlaps with Children’s Book Week, and is produced in partnership with schools, community groups, and libraries across Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. Last year’s Festival reached over 1,200 kids and family members.

We recognize that kids' access to literary programming is inequitably distributed across MA—especially for those living in rural areas and Gateway Cities—and we also know how transformational author events can be. Research has proven that author events and school visits not only lead to improvement in the reading “enjoyment, attitudes, and confidence” of young people, they also serve to increase “reading frequency, fluency, and comprehension.”
